Her passion for knives led her to become author of technical reviews on production knives since 2012; she collaborates with Italian knife magazines and owns Ultimate Knives & Gear website.

Alessandra’s knowledge about steels and materials comes from her university studies (she has a degree in Industrial Chemistry, and a Master degree in Industrial Chemistry of polymeric materials).

MIGUEL BARBUDO

I was born in Madrid in 1980, and I grew up in Valdemaqueda, the small mountain town where my family comes from, and where I enjoy my passions: knife-making, horses, and good tobaccos.
Early in my life I started working in my father’s forge, from whom I learned the trade of making furniture and forging crafts.
At the same time, I had the privilege of entering and training at the School of Traditional Forging and Restoration at the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, where I learned from some of the best blacksmiths who worked at maintaining and restoring original pieces from the 17th century.
After my training period I returned to the family forge, alternating forging and welding with manufacturing knives for local hunters.
Little by little, knife-making took up more and more of my time, until 2015, when I decided to create my own brand and online store navajasbarbudo.es
On October 2016 I suffered a fire in the forge that completely destroyed both the workshop as all the machinery inside.
I consider myself a fighter who does not give up easily, so I turned tragedy into an opportunity, and I took the chance to re-emerge as a full-time knife-maker, making up for the lack of means with hard work and determination.
On 2019 I was called to take part in the international edition of Forged in Fire, where I made the finals, having been the winner of the most number of programs and earned the most points. An unforgettable experience both professionally, for the international exposure, and personally, because I made great friends from all over IberoAmerica that I still have.
My style mixes the passion for the rich Spanish knife-making tradition, and for the most modern and exclusive materials, taking as reference the anonymous Spanish makers of the 18th and 19th centuries, to modern masters from all over the world, aiming to offer the best craftmanship and designs for the most demanding users and collectors.
